Food is among the most present and thought provoking subjects in all of Eastern philosophy. The fact is that the countries of the East have given us both influential philosophies and widely eaten cuisines. In some cases, food is simply the center of social life and personal health. In others, food is considered holy, to be shared with the gods who helped to provide it. Need proof that food and philosophy go together? How about the fortune cookie?

In Eastern philosophy, food is considered medicine and cooking with herbs is a basic tenet of the philosophy. In the Spa’s cooking classes, you will learn how body functions and enzymes are activated by taste, how herbs help create age-defying meals, how to cook without losing nutritional value, how to read nutritional labels, how to find and use organic and non-GMO produce and meats and other aspects of smart basic nutrition.
